Semana Santa Puerto Vallarta

Holy Week & Easter, otherwise known as Semana Santa & Semana de Pascua, is one of the most widely celebrated holidays in Mexico, bringing those from all around the country on spring break vacations to Puerto Vallarta to celebrate.

Semana Santa is a celebration that honors the last days of Jesus Christ's life. The week-long celebration starts with Palm Sunday, offering special parades & passion plays that lead up to Easter Sunday. In many communities around Mexico, the passion plays are enacted from the last supper, the judgement, the betrayal, the procession of the 12 Stations of the Cross, the crucifixion & the resurrection.

Tourism authorities estimate that around 20 million nationals will be traveling during the Holy Week, continually ranking Puerto Vallarta one of the most popular beach destinations to spend the holiday.

During the two celebratory weeks of Semana Santa & Semana de Pascua, hotels reach peak capacity, streets are overrun with people & beaches are filled with tents & sleeping bags.

The celebration is one of the oldest traditions in Mexico, an artistic & cultural event, celebrated by all who attend whether or not they share the Catholic beliefs. And of course because of its importance in Latin countries, Semana Santa is also a festive occasion, offering street celebrations, music, dance & festivities.

Puerto Vallarta will be offering special events including a car exhibit, beach volleyball & a soccer tournament. From March 24th-March 27th, enjoy live performances, rock concerts, bikini contests, gift giveaways & nightly fashion shows featuring local designers. These exciting festivities will be offered all over Banderas Bay, including Hard Rock Caf, Bebo Tero, Zoo Bar, The Roxy, Carlos O'brians, La Regadera, Nikki Beach & the Agustin Flores Contreras Stadium.

The week following Easter Sunday is known as Pascua, where all of Vallarta celebrates the resurrection. Pascua marks the release of the sacrifices of Lent, turning the booming town of Puerto Vallarta into non-stop party mode. Though it may seem a little chaotic, Semana Santa & Semana de Pascua are some of the most festive & exciting times to visit Puerto Vallarta.
