How To Help Mexico Earthquake Victims

A couple of days ago, a powerful earthquake struck Mexico, toppling buildings, cracking highways and killing hundreds of people.
Mexico is still recovering from a magnitude 8.2 earthquake, the strongest one the country has felt in 100 years, which hit the southern coast just two weeks ago. Tuesdays earthquake also fell on the 32nd anniversary of the magnitude 8.0 earthquake that struck Mexico City in 1985, killing thousands.
Here in Vistalegre we want to help the victims of the earthquake. If you want to help like us, here are the different ways to help, no matter if you are outside of Mexico or you are unable to travel to the affected areas.

Donate to Volunteer and Emergency Aid Organizations
Organizations like Cruz Roja (the Mexican Red Cross) and Brigada de Rescate Topos, are the principal organizations who need donations. However other non profit organizations like UNICEF Mexico and UNICEF U.S.A. need resources too.

Other Groups and locations that are accepting all types of donations include: Oxfam U.S., Save the Children Mexico, World Vision, The Salvation Army and Project Paz. This type of donations are accessible to people who living in the U.S.

Share Emergency information on Social Media
Social media has proven to be an important tool during large-scale natural disasters. People in Mexico are using this public Google document to list the names of those who have been rescued. Google also opened its People Finder feature, which helps collect information on victims.
Tweets and Facebook posts with information on open hospitals and shelters were also useful for those affected by the earthquake.

Help us Put Boots on the Ground
Do you have the opportunity to go to the affected areas? Go and help the victims to the organizations and all the volunteers who are giving their time and effort in rescuing the affected from the rubble.
If you currently live in any of the affected areas help the needy, turn your WIFI conection to public, so that victims and families may get in touch with each other. If you are a medical professional or have experience with architectural engineering, find a disaster zone where your expertise may be utilized.
